Business Information and Communication Technologies

Information Technologies are an important factor for the prosperity of every company - for the higher productivity,effectiveness and competitiveness in fast changing environment. The purpose of the course is to introduce the main principles and terminology of Information and Communication Technologies and Management Information Systems. A wide range of topics covering different modern technologies are included in the course such as Management Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Expert Systems, Hypermedia, World Wide Web, Client-Server Systems, Object Oriented Programming, etc. The acquired knowledge and skills can be used for understanding, utilizing and design of software applications in business and management. Web-based Interface to Databases

Study hours: 2+2

The purpose of the course is to introduce some specific techniques and methods used for creating and maintenance of web-based databases including various types of multimedia components as well as to show how these techniques and methods can be used in practice for the design of interactive multimedia Web applications.

Prerequisites: knowledge in Web-programming- HTML, Java, Javascript as well as basic knowledge in DB - SQL.

Business Telecommunications

The course introduces the basic technologyand terminology in data transmissions and computer networks. The necessary information is given and some basic skills in working with different applications for communications. After completing the course the students should be able to take part in discussions and give alternative software and hardware solutions for access to the global and the implementation of the organization's local network.

Decision Support Systems

Choosing between several possible alternatives is an important managerial activity called Decision Making. The main goal of the course is to convince the students in the advantages of Information Technologies when used to support Decision Making in company management. The course gives different approaches and systems for decision support, the characteristics of the supporting systems, features, structure and advantages, the connection between administrative systems and information systems, Group Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, organizational, technical, social and legal problems in the implementation of supporting systems and evaluation of the achieved improvement in management.

Business on the Internet

The course gives knowledge on how to start business on the Internet, how to use Internet for doing business - communications, sales, marketing, research, human resource development, public relations. With regard to this the following IT and Internet terminology is being discussed: firewalls, data security, encryption, client-server systems, data warehouse, management support systems, electronic commerce, home and mobile office, intranet, multimedia, object oriented technologies, intelligent agents, wireless connections. After completing the course the students should be able to sell products and services on the Internet, to assess the quality of products and services offered by Internet, to make a presentation on the Internet, to build their own intranet, to build new business relations with banks, companies, clients.

Multimedia and Internet Applications

The course aims at acquiring practical skills for work with multimedia applications (software and hardware devices): recording and processing of digital sound, two- and three-dimensional images, animation. The course demonstrates the phases of the design of an Internet site and the implementation of the elements and hypermedia links.

Quantity Methods in Marketing Research (Applied Statistics)

Lecturer: Plamen Mateev
Study hours: 2+2

The purpose of the course is to introduce the principles, methods and procedures of quantity analysis of marketing research data, the interpretation of the results as well as skills for work with statistics software. The sequence of the phases of the research is being followed - problem definition, choosing a model, planning of the experiment, information gathering, applying the necessary computing procedures and interpreting the results. Examples are being given for applying models and procedures from dispersion analysis, regression, factor analysis, multidimensional scaling, discriminant analysis, logit/probit models. The work is illustrated with the software system STATISTICA or SPSS/PC.

Information Resource Management

The course gives systematic knowledge and principles in planning, design, management and use of modern communication and information technologies.
