Summarising
Summarising means reproducing a message in a shorter form, preserving
the essence of the original but discarding inessential information. Every
text has a logical pattern and this logical pattern is the topic structure.
The topic structure of the original provides a skeleton for the summary.
Each paragraph contains a topic sentence which frequently, though by no
means always, is the opening sentence. In order to reproduce the message
as fully as possible, it will usually be necessary to select from the original
some of the supporting information. Supporting information usually consists
