Activity 3
There are many reasons why people are willing to take the risks of ownership. This reasons include:
Profit - Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs started Apple Computer in a garage. Recently, Jobs left the company, sold 1.35 million shares of his company stock for $21.4 million and found a team of workers to start a new business. Such incentives have led many engineers and risk takers of all kinds to seek their fortune in home laboratories and small businesses.
Independence - many entrepreneurs are not in it for the money. Rather they are interested in the freedom of ownership.
Opportunity - many people do not have the necessary skills ffor working in today's complex organisations. They do have the initiative and drive to work the long hours demanded by entrepreneurship.
Challenge - entrepreneurs flourish on taking calculated risks. But they seek achievement more than power.
Can you name some other reasons why you would take the risks of ownership. Please mail your answer to the tutor.
