4. Kiril and Metodii – Slav teachers

             Kiril and Metodii were born in Salonica. Theirs father Leo was high captain in Salonica. The mothers name is Maria and she has also high birth. Kiril was born on 827y. (It is known that he die at 869y, 42y. old). Metodii is older. We don’t know he’s birthday. There were contradictory affirmations about nationality of the brothers – Greeks or Slavs. But independent of this is the fact of creation of Slav alphabet by brothers. They are first Slav teachers, preachers and writers. The brothers bequeath ideas for right of the nations to have own written culture, for principle of translations and others.

             Metodii works about 10 years as arhont of small province. At this time he gets knowledge about the Slavs people. Kiril have born-name Konstantin. He has humility, diligence and big capabilities, because of that he was sent to study at the famous Magnaur School. There he study oratory, geometry, arithmetic, philosophy, literature, music and other. The appellation “Philosopher” is result of he philosophy and linguistics talents. After school Konstantin get nomination of librarian of high religious library. This nomination is honorary and was given only for educated and sagacious mans. Konstantin was 24y. old when he was sent with religious and political mission to Arabs. Here he lead very important religious dispute and make a brilliant display of knowledge. Konstantin can introduce the Christianity with simple words for people. The Arabs was respected from he’s oratory.

             Soon after Arabian mission he have confided new mission. He departs to country of Hazars with mission to refute infidels and to win friends for Byzantine. In this mission takes participation he’s brother Metodii – at this time he was away into retirement in monastery. On the way to Hazar brothers goes at Byzantine stronghold Herson at the Crimea peninsula. Here Konstantin perform antiquarian dig up to find the remains of Rome saint-pope Clement, drowned at the sea. He has success and brings remains of pope Clement at Herson. After that brothers goes by the sea to Hazars. Here they get win. They win the friendship of Hazars for Byzantine.

             After return in Istanbul Konstansin gets new mission in Moravia. Tzar Rostislav wants teacher for people who can explain religion with simple words and language. The emperor of Byzantine has interest to send teacher who can increase influence of Byzantine. The letters are way for education and independent culture. Because of that brothers develop the alphabet before mission. With Slav books they come in Moravia. Here they work hard to teach bookmans and priests. The pope wants to see brothers. He was impressed of the audacious action of brothers. By the way to Rome the brothers teach students in Panonia. In Venice they were on convocation. Here they receive critical notes for Slav written. But the progressive view of the Slav written was represent by Konstantin. The brothers win good will of pope. Pope blase the brothers to teach Slavs in Moravia and Panonia. At Rome Konstantin dies after illness. Metodii stay devoted of the work, he goes in Moravia. Here he officiates in Slav language, teach many students and translate books. But German clergy continue the slanderous campaign. Metodii was imprisoned for two years and was morally and bodily tortured, but he does not deny the work. He does the work until he dies at 885y. The famous work of Kiril and he’s brother Metodii is creation of Slav alphabet and translation of religion books. They become to be founders of the Slav literature.
