Fundamentals of Educational and Training System Design

Course Aims

  1. To introduce in, and acquaint the learners with, the scope, main subject areas, content, used approaches and methodologies of the contemporary educational science and technology,
  2. To train them in particular educational technology methods and procedures, which are highly relevant to their key job tasks.

Course Summary

  1. The learners to get an insight and awareness about the scope, terminology, and the meaning of the categories of educational technology, design, and engineering, the system and systematic design approach, and other related concepts, so as to be able to apply effectively these concepts in their professional practice.
  2. Acquainting the learners with the concepts related to educational goals and outcomes -- levels of goals, formulation rules, linkage goals - content - outcomes, measurement and assessment concepts with respect to the way of defining goals and outcomes. Training them in defining and effective applying of goals - outcomes related issues.
  3. Acquainting the learners with the main concepts and state of the art with respect to the educational planning.
  4. Introducing learners to the concept and main issues of the curriculum design from an technology design perspective. Training them in applying basic technologies and techniques for curriculum design at a meso level -- within the frames of particular subjects and particular grade.
  5. Acquainting the learners with some basic concepts, technologies, and procedures in the scope of instructional design.
  6. Training learners in different group techniques for active learning and problem solving mainly through "learning by doing" approach when working together on class assignments on different topics.
  7. Acquainting the learners with some basic ways of using educational media in the instructional process, and increasing their motivation in such use by organising an instructional process that makes intensive use of educational media.

  1. Educational science and technologies, educational design. Main related categories, models, and concepts.
  2. Educational goals - levels, types, formulation rules. Relating goals and outcomes in the instructional process. Evaluation, measurement, and assessment. Related concepts.
  3. Educational planning. Different types of planing, advantages and disadvantages. Major steps and concepts in the strategic planning.
  4. Curriculum design. Main concepts, some basic technologies for single course curriculum design.
  5. Fundamentals of the instructional design. Some basic technologies. Main steps and stages.
  6. Instructional media design. Basic concepts. Basic features and knowledge with respect to the visual design. Developing overhead transparencies and on-screen presentations - some basic rules. Presentation software - an overview of main possibilities and features.
