Center of IST, Research Sector, Sofia University Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” is the first school of higher education in Bulgaria and it is
the largest and most prestigious educational and scientific centre in the country. It has over
35’000 students studying 76 profiles in 17 faculties. The Centre of Information Society
Technologies (CIST) is an interdisciplinary research and training institution of Sofia University, motivated by the challenge of supporting the development, introduction and wide use of Information Society Technologies (IST). A team of 13 researchers and 13 Ph.D. students actively work in the field of e-business and e-government. The main RTD areas covered by CIST are: e-business, e-work, e-government, e-learning and HRD, knowledge management and knowledge engineering, intelligent agents, computer-supported co-operative work, virtual environments, innovation and exploitation of academic research. CIST is involved in a number of national and international educational and research and development projects within FP5, TEMPUS, PECO and INCO-Copernicus European programs, National Science Fund, Structural Policy, etc.

The Institute for Business Economics (IAB) is part of the Faculty of Economics and Business
Administration at the University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland. Its designated task is
research and development as well as consulting services for companies. In 1999, the Competence
Centre for E-Business was founded as a part of the IAB with currently 11 people, working in teaching, research projects and consulting. UAS Basel is especially dedicated to the promotion of e-business/e-government use in Swiss SMEs. There is a broad range of services offered to small companies. The Competence Centre for E-Business at UAS Basel has one of its main competences in the production of e-business case studies.
