ABOUT VALUE
The Virtual Almanac for Logo Users and Educators (VALUE) addresses
the needs of effective support to teachers and students involved in the
implementation of an educational innovation. It was originally designed
to help teachers and students working on a project which introduces the
"learning by developing" paradigm and Comenius
Logo environment to a number of Bulgarian schools. Our approach involves
the design of VALUE - an interactive Web site to embed the materials being
produced, to mediate tele-learning and two-way communication; to enable
and support the collaborative development of materials.
Important aspects of our approach to teacher preparation and support
is: provide opportunities for tele-learning and collaboration over distance;
interaction between teachers and experts and among teachers themselves
in order to share ideas and experiences and learn from each other; teacher
participation in the development of project-related teaching and learning
materials.
VALUE is not a static body of information, but a dynamic entity, being
constantly enriched by new materials developed by experts, teachers and
other Logo users.
We believe that VALUE can reduce the problems which teachers and students
in remote areas face while working on the project. Here we offer various
materials and resources to facilitate self-learning and help teachers design
the learning environments and learning processes in their classrooms. We
see the teachers as not transmitters of ready-made knowledge and actors
in pre-defined learning scenarios. Rather, we believe in their creativity,
initiative, intuition and unique teaching styles. The resources we offer
are intended to be used in a creative manner in each particular situation.
We encourage the interaction in order to be able to help "just-in-time".
We value the sense of ownership and commitment in teachers and invite
them to participate in the development and evaluation of project-related
materials. VALUE is intended to be a mediator in this collaborative activity.
