The project REGGAE aims to provide various opportunities to Bulgarians to interact and have fun with
researchers. The project events will take place in several Bulgarian cities – Sofia, Varna,
Rousse, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sozopol, Kazanlak and Kardzhali. A number of high visible
activities will be designed in accordance with the target audience. Some of the successful
activities from 2006 will have a follow-up in 2007, trying to establish a longer tradition,
e.g. the exhibition "Bulgarian traces in science" , the newspaper "HOMO SCIENS" and
the music-poetry concert of researchers.
The project activities targeted at the younger participants will include:
- a painting competition among children of on the topic "Draw me a researcher" in three categories – 6-12 and 13-18 age groups and students from art schools;
- photo exhibitions ”Make your own research investigation discovering ancient history and archaeology”;
- "Atelier of young talents" including 13 competitions for students and other interested people.
Most of the activities will be targeted at all age groups and will focus on making the public acquaint with the work and life of researchers:
- 7 amusement programs of researchers – for the public at large, including young people;
- 8 tours in museums and 2 old city tours – guided by researchers;
- 3 games between researchers and public "Who, what, where – show your knowledge";
- 16 exhibitions and 12 demonstration sites with hand-on experiments guided by researchers;
- 4 films, 3 newspapers and dedicated web materials on researchers.
The project REGGAE will include a big diversity of activities for various audiences:
- Researchers will perform for a large Bulgarian audience
at a "Music-poetry concert of researchers"
on 28 September in 5 Bulgarian cities – Sofia, Sozopol,
Rousse, Varna and Stara Zagora. In some places a carnival
of researchers and games between researchers and public
will be included in the program.
- Special events targeted at younger generation will be
carried out within the activity "Atelier of
young talents" in 8 Bulgarian cities - Sofia, Rousse,
Varna, Sozopol, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, Kazanlak and Kardzhali.
The activities will include various children exhibitions,
competitions, games with researchers and quizzes on scientific
issues with a number of surprises and awards. A
children paintings competition will be organized
on the topic "Draw me a researcher".
- "Researchers as Guides in time" will
include tours out of the normal opening hours in museums
and/or old city tours guided by researchers in several places.
- "Discover scientific traditions" will
bring Bulgarian scientists closer to the society, and will
focus the public attention on Bulgarian scientific traditions
with several exhibitions devoted to local and national traditions.
A second issue of the newspaper "HOMO SCIENS" and the exhibition
"Bulgarian traces in science" will be also prepared.
- "Touch science" will give opportunity
to children and their parents to participate in hand-on
scientific experiments guided by researchers (e.g. LabVIEW
Based Temperature Measurement, Intelligent DC motor control,
Four Digit Digital Counter) or visit university labs. Some
researchers will prepare exhibitions disclosing different
sides of their personality or will interact with the audience
at round-tables, cafes-scientific or causeries.
- The dissemination activities will focus
on researchers" life, achievements and contributions to
society and its progress, as well as the EU efforts to support
researchers" career. Through the Internet, the printed
media, the dedicated TV and radio transmissions,
the debate on researchers" profession, and the European
scientific traditions will reach the public.
- The impact assessment will get from the
audience a feedback important for future work. It will be
conducted a survey during the Researchers" Night, before
and after it targeted at participants of different ages,
researchers and organizers, and helping to evaluate the
appreciation of the actions and their contribution to changing
the image of researchers.
- Management and control – will be focused
on two main activities: project management and deliverables
handling; local events and activities management.
