Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky” is the biggest and oldest university
in Bulgaria having eight faculties, more than 2,000 academic staff and
more than 30,000 students. It is a proven academic and research center
on the Balkans attracting foreign students from neighboring countries,
Middle East and Africa and Far East countries. Sofia University participates
in practically all European research schemes, with a special emphasis on
scientific and information society related projects. It is partnering with
organizations as UNESCO, World Bank, UNDP and others.
Roumen Nikolov is
Associate Professor in Informatics,
Head of Department of Information Technologies and
Director of the Centre of Information Society Technologies at Sofia University.
He holds MSc in Software Engineering and PhD in Computer Science from Sofia
University and post-docs at University of Edinburgh and University of Twente.
His professional experience includes: extensive lecturing in IT related
areas, EC FP5 IST Programme National Contact Point, contractor and coordinator
of dozens of projects under the Fifth Framework Program, INCO Copernicus,
Phare, Tempus, sitting on the board of professional and branch organizations
and business consulting. He publishes in areas as e-commerce, telework
and distance learning.
