![]() IRES - Istituto di Ricerche Economiche e Sociali, CGIL IRES, today a non profit association, was founded in 1979 by the Italian trade union CGIL. The activities carried out by IRES have always centred on work, however along side this theme and the analysis of its transformations, studies on welfare, social inclusion and sustainable development have also been developed since the end of the 1980s. Giovanna Altieri, economist, since May 1998 has been the director of IRES, the Institute of Economic and Social Research where she has been a researcher for almost 30 years. As co-ordinator and head of the labour market area of IRES has co-ordinated various research groups on themes concerning the labour market, policies to reduce unemployment, social exclusion, equal opportunities, new forms of employment (related to ICT: teleworking..), labour market segmentation and local market indicators for the revitalisation of local areas with a development deficit. She has organised various seminars and workshops, promoting debates and discussions on the quoted topics with experts from different areas (University, institutions, Trade Unions). Giovanna Altieri
